Software Engineer, Developer Productivity

Location: Hybrid at the San Francisco headquarters, California, United States

Base salary: $150,000–$165,000 per year, plus equity and bonus.

What you will do

• Build and maintain tooling for engineers’ local development environments.
• Improve build and test speed, reliability, CI troubleshooting, and release automation.
• Enhance Kubernetes tooling so product teams can make routine application changes independently.
• Develop catalog entries, templates, and plugins for the Backstage developer portal.
• Support releases through Kargo and participate in the engineering support rotation.
• Document solutions, improve recurring issues, participate in code reviews, and contribute to technical discussions.

Requirements

• 2–4 years of software engineering experience, including internships or significant projects.
• Programming experience with TypeScript or JavaScript, plus Go or Python.
• Comfort with shell scripting, the command line, Git, and CI/CD concepts.
• Interest in developer tooling, infrastructure, and improving developer experience.
• Clear communication, strong collaboration skills, and alignment with the values of drive, intent, integrity, and empathy.

Nice to have

• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, or SRE practices such as monitoring and incident response.
• Experience with webpack, Jest, Vitest, Bazel, or Backstage.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as GCP, AWS, or Azure.
