Senior Staff Software Engineer (Perception & Sensing)

Location: Foster City, California or Boston, Massachusetts; on-site

Base salary: $324,000–$389,000 per year

Zoox is developing a fully autonomous vehicle fleet and the supporting mobility-as-a-service ecosystem for urban environments.

What you will do

• Lead the Sensor Change Playbook workflow and define validation processes for next-generation, low-cost vehicle platforms.
• Partner with PCP V&V to define the Autonomy Technical Specification and identify worst-case scenarios for complex operating design domains.
• Define bounding scenarios for winter driving, including heavy snow, ice, and sensor occlusion.
• Architect low-cost perception stacks that reduce reliance on expensive sensors and operate within severely constrained compute budgets.
• Drive the Clearance Method of Compliance process for hardware changes while balancing cost, compute, performance, and safety.

Requirements

• Deep expertise in the PCP Stack, multi-modality fusion, and architecture optimization for constrained compute.
• Experience with validation and verification for safety-critical systems and complex operational design domains.
• Ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders across SDMA, AHE, and PCP on cost-versus-performance trade-offs.
• Experience managing or curating datasets for sensor validation or model training.
• Ability to work on-site in Foster City, California, or Boston, Massachusetts.

Nice to have

• Experience with Autonomy Technical Specifications and winter or adverse-weather bounding scenarios.
• Experience working with vision-language models.
