Staff Software Engineer (Healthcare)

Location: Hybrid in Vancouver, BC, Canada; at least 3 days per week in the office

What you will do

• Provide hands-on technical leadership across product engineering pods and key technical domains.
• Design secure, resilient, and performant distributed systems, APIs, microservices, and cloud-native services, with Azure preferred.
• Partner with engineering, product, clinical, and compliance stakeholders to align architecture with business priorities, regulations, and product roadmaps.
• Mentor engineers and raise standards for architecture, code quality, testing, documentation, and technical reviews.
• Lead technical discovery and prototyping for complex integrations and data flows involving FHIR, HL7, X12, and Kafka.
• Influence multi-team technical initiatives focused on reliability, security, scalability, performance, developer experience, and AI integration.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of professional software development experience, including 3+ years in a senior, staff, or principal-level role.
• Experience designing distributed systems, APIs, and cloud-native services with .NET Core, C#, and React or Angular.
• Strong knowledge of domain-driven design, microservices, event-driven architecture, Apache Kafka or comparable messaging platforms, and saga patterns.
• Hands-on experience with Azure or AWS, serverless functions, messaging queues, managed databases, and infrastructure as code such as Terraform or Bicep.
• Experience with CI/CD, observability, DevSecOps, secrets management, architectural leadership, and stakeholder communication.

Nice to have

• Experience applying FHIR, HL7, or X12 standards in healthcare systems.
• Experience with AI/ML services or innovation-focused architecture.
• Familiarity with cross-cloud or hybrid-cloud architecture patterns.
