Senior Software Engineer - Backend (Python)

Location: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; hybrid workplace

Builds synthetic data and simulation platforms for autonomous vehicle and robotics teams, including ML reconstruction pipelines and simulation-as-a-service products.

What you will do

• Expand and maintain customer-facing backend services, APIs, web application integrations, and asynchronous processing pipelines.
• Design RESTful APIs and data models with clear separation between data and business logic, authentication, versioning, and documentation.
• Own features end to end, from requirements and system design through implementation, deployment, and production operation.
• Collaborate with product managers, technical stakeholders, SRE, and field engineering to clarify requirements and interface design.
• Debug production issues, participate in incident response, and improve monitoring, alerting, observability, and service reliability.
• Contribute to engineering standards for testing, code quality, dependency management, API documentation, and service structure.

Requirements

• Experience delivering complex backend projects end to end across APIs, databases, and service integrations.
• Production experience with Python and Flask, FastAPI, or equivalent web frameworks.
• Experience with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases and ORM patterns.
• Experience deploying, operating, and debugging Linux services with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Production service ownership, including monitoring, alerting, on-call response, and post-incident improvements.
• Experience with RESTful API design and documentation, data pipelines, and stakeholder requirement gathering.

Nice to have

• Experience with event-driven systems, message brokers, workflow orchestration, load balancers, HTTP proxies, or service mesh patterns.
• Experience with SQLAlchemy and production monitoring databases or alerting infrastructure.
• Ownership of production React applications, including architecture, state management, deployment, testing, build tooling, or performance optimization.
• Experience in simulation, ML pipelines, or autonomous systems.
