Staff Software Engineer, Traffic Team (Go/Ruby)

What you will do

• Lead technical decision-making and architecture for traffic management systems.
• Design and implement scalable, reliable, and performant solutions for rate limiting, routing, and related traffic problems.
• Maintain and improve the hirify.global Load Balancer and other traffic management systems.
• Write, review, and maintain production code primarily in Go and Ruby on Rails.
• Mentor engineers on technical and architectural decisions.
• Participate in the on-call rotation and team meetings.

Requirements

• Staff-level software engineering experience with 9+ years of experience, or equivalent education and experience combinations.
• At least 4 years of building and supporting large, high-traffic applications at scale in platform or infrastructure domains.
• At least 4 years of building and supporting cloud-native workloads on Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
• At least 2 years maintaining a load balancer, including abuse protection mechanisms for DDoS attacks and load shedding.
• Production software development experience with one or more languages including Go, Ruby, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Rust, or Python.
• Ability to work remotely from the United Kingdom, collaborate asynchronously, and communicate effectively in writing.

Nice to have

• Experience with HAProxy or another open-source load balancer.
• At least 2 years of Golang experience.
• Experience building or maintaining planetary-scale engineering systems.
• Experience working with a remote, distributed team.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
