Director of Choral Activities (Music)

East Texas A&M University’s School of Music offers undergraduate and graduate programs in music education and performance and operates a NASM-accredited program serving approximately 240 music majors.

What you will do

• Provide artistic, educational, and programmatic leadership for the University’s choral program.
• Direct the University Chorale and Chamber Singers, overseeing rehearsal, performance, artistic development, and long-term growth.
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in choral conducting, choral literature, conducting technique, rehearsal methodology, and related areas.
• Mentor students, supervise student teachers, and prepare future music educators, conductors, and performers.
• Lead recruitment, retention, outreach, auditions, clinics, workshops, festivals, and partnerships with schools and community organizations.
• Pursue conducting, performances, recordings, scholarship, professional presentations, service, and program development.

Requirements

• Doctorate in Music Education, Choral Conducting, Conducting, or a closely related field; equivalent university experience and demonstrated achievement may be considered.
• Professional experience in choral conducting and ensemble leadership.
• Knowledge of choral repertoire, conducting techniques, rehearsal methodology, choral pedagogy, and vocal principles.
• Ability to conduct, rehearse, and develop choral ensembles and teach and mentor students in a collegiate environment.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and professional colleagues.

Nice to have

• Collegiate teaching and choral conducting experience with a record of successful ensemble leadership.
• Experience in student recruitment, enrollment growth, curriculum planning, assessment, scheduling, or academic program development.
• Creative activity or scholarship in choral conducting, music education, vocal pedagogy, or a related field.
• Experience with clinics, workshops, master classes, professional organizations, and secondary-school partnerships.
• Knowledge of Texas UIL processes and experience preparing students or preservice educators for UIL activities.
