Director of Band & Instrumental Activities (Music)

East Texas A&M University’s School of Music serves approximately 240 music majors and offers undergraduate and graduate programs in music education and performance.

What you will do

• Conduct the Wind Ensemble and provide artistic, academic, and programmatic leadership for the university band program.
• Teach graduate and undergraduate conducting, graduate courses in instrumental repertoire and pedagogy, and additional courses aligned with expertise.
• Organize and administer concert ensembles, marching band, jazz ensembles, and athletic bands.
• Lead band staff and instrumental faculty, develop the program, and supervise budget and fiscal responsibilities.
• Recruit for the band and university and promote the program at regional, state, and national events.
• Participate in creative, research, and service activities consistent with faculty responsibilities.

Requirements

• Doctorate in Music Education, Conducting, or a closely related field from an accredited institution; equivalent university experience and demonstrated achievement may be considered.
• At least three years of experience as a university-level Director or Assistant Director of Bands.
• Ability to multitask, collaborate effectively, manage budgets associated with an R2 institution, and coordinate department-wide recruiting activities.
• Full-time, tenure-track faculty appointment with a reduced teaching load for administrative responsibilities.
• Submission of a cover letter, curriculum vitae, repertoire list, teaching philosophy, professional activity and goals statement, transcripts, and three professional references.

Nice to have

• At least five years of university teaching experience.
