AI Engineering Manager

Location: United States, remote

Market compensation for comparable management-level AI architecture roles: $200K–$390K.

What you will do

• Own the technical architecture and design direction for AI/ML systems, from model training pipelines through inference infrastructure and deployment.
• Lead and grow an AI engineering team through hiring, mentoring, performance feedback, and technical development paths.
• Drive system design reviews and architecture decisions across models, infrastructure, data pipelines, and production reliability.
• Partner with product, data science, and infrastructure teams to translate business requirements into scalable AI system designs.
• Establish standards for model evaluation, testing, monitoring, and observability across deployed systems.
• Ship production AI systems while communicating technical strategy, risks, and opportunities to non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 3 years in AI/ML engineering and hands-on production AI work.
• At least 2 years in a leadership or senior individual contributor role managing or mentoring engineering teams.
• Deep technical fluency in AI/ML infrastructure, training frameworks, model serving, data pipelines, and production deployment patterns.
• Experience shipping AI systems end-to-end and balancing model performance, cost, latency, and operational complexity.
• Strong communication skills and experience leading cross-functional work with product, data science, and infrastructure partners.
• Comfort with ambiguity, intellectual curiosity, and commitment to continuous learning in a rapidly evolving AI landscape.
