Principal AI Engineer

Salary: $159,600–$207,500 base salary per year

What you will do

• Define technical strategy and standards for traditional AI/ML models, large language models, retrieval, orchestration, and agentic AI.
• Design, train, fine-tune, evaluate, and optimize production AI/ML and language models using QLoRA, LoRA, PEFT, quantization, and full fine-tuning where appropriate.
• Build orchestration and abstraction layers connecting models with enterprise tools, data, APIs, and specialized sub-agents.
• Design and operate MCP servers, tool and function-calling standards, RAG systems, vector search, re-ranking, and context assembly.
• Build reproducible data and AI/ML pipelines covering ingestion, labeling, experiment tracking, dataset management, model versioning, evaluation, observability, and tracing.
• Partner with product and platform teams to move models and AI capabilities into production, while mentoring engineers and raising engineering maturity.

Requirements

• Must be based in the USA for this remote role.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline; an advanced degree in ML, AI, or Data Science is preferred.
• 12 or more years of experience in AI/ML engineering, applied ML, or data engineering, including substantial hands-on model training and fine-tuning.
• Production experience with AI/ML and LLM deployment, parameter-efficient fine-tuning, model evaluation, and optimization.
• Deep experience with LLM orchestration, agentic AI, MCP servers, tool/function calling, RAG architectures, embeddings, vector databases, hybrid search, and re-ranking.
• Proficiency with PyTorch, Hugging Face Transformers/PEFT/TRL, scikit-learn, and scalable data or AI platforms using technologies such as Spark, Ray, or dbt.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree in machine learning, artificial intelligence, or data science.
• Experience with LangGraph, LlamaIndex, Semantic Kernel, or equivalent frameworks.
