Power Transformer Tank Design Engineer

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina, United States; relocation required for candidates not already located in Charlotte.

What you will do

• Design and analyze transformer tanks and external components, including stiffeners, covers, coolers, conservators, pipework, and cabling.
• Create 2D/3D CAD layouts, detailed drawings, bills of material, and customer documentation.
• Develop technical specifications and manage procurement of fans, pumps, radiators, valves, and other tank-related parts.
• Perform mechanical, structural, and seismic calculations and select transformer accessories.
• Support product improvement and R&D projects.
• Oversee initial factory construction, implement new processes, and help prepare the Charlotte manufacturing center and team for production.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience designing tanks for medium or large power transformers.
• Strong knowledge of structural steel parts, materials, and transformer tank components.
• Experience with CREO, Pro/E, Inventor, AutoCAD, PDM systems such as PDM Link or Teamcenter, and SAP for bill-of-material creation.
• Strong collaboration skills with manufacturing, suppliers, and customers.
• Excellent written and verbal English and legal authorization to work in the United States are required.
