TL;DR
Principal Structural Engineer (Oil & Gas): Developing and analyzing structural, civil, and foundation designs for modular oil and gas facilities, gas compressor stations, and power generation projects with an accent on structural steel, offshore modules, and industry code compliance. Focus on resolving complex structural problems, producing design reports and drawings, coordinating with suppliers and other engineering disciplines, and supporting fabrication, installation, and commissioning.

Location: Houston, Texas; onsite five days a week. The role supports occasional travel to fabrication, installation, and customer sites, including international travel.

Salary: $120,600–$180,900 per year.

What you will do

  • Develop structural, civil, foundation, skid, and modular building designs for oil and gas compression and power generation projects.
  • Perform detailed structural analysis and calculations for structural steel, offshore Single Lift Modules, and Configurable Modular Prefabricated Buildings.
  • Produce structural analysis and design reports, drawings, specifications, connection details, and foundation interface loads.
  • Coordinate with mechanical, piping, instrumentation, electrical, suppliers, customers, fabrication, quality, and purchasing teams.
  • Prepare proposal man-hour and cost estimates, monitor project schedules and execution costs, and recommend design or process improvements.
  • Support transportation, fabrication, installation, commissioning, and start-up activities, including field and marine reviews.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of oil and gas industry experience and a Bachelor of Science degree in Structural Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering License in Texas is required.
  • Experience with ASTM, ACI, CRSI, ASCE, OSHA, IBC, AWS, PIP, and ASCE wind-load standards for petrochemical and industrial facilities.
  • Experience with STAAD Pro is required; RAMconnect and MathCAD experience is expected.
  • Ability to work in the United States is required.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication, problem-solving, troubleshooting, organization, and prioritization skills.

Nice to have

  • Master of Science degree in Structural Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering licenses in other states, API 2A and NFPA knowledge, and familiarity with international codes.
  • Technical Spanish reading and writing, Six Sigma experience, fabrication facility experience, and knowledge of turbines, compressors, or generators.
