Director of Engineering, AI Transformation

What you will do

• Lead the engineering function within the AI Transformation team and set technical direction.
• Own the architecture, shared services, interfaces, platform capabilities, and engineering standards.
• Translate business and workflow requirements into scalable, reliable technical systems.
• Identify constraints and failure modes across scaling, integration, data access, security, latency, reliability, model behavior, cost, and maintainability.
• Manage hiring, onboarding, development, retention, and technical career paths while growing the engineering team.
• Own delivery planning, build-versus-buy decisions, reusable infrastructure, AI-assisted development, evaluation, and production measurement.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years leading engineers with significant technical and people-management responsibility.
• Experience owning architecture and technical direction for production software systems.
• Strong ability to translate ambiguous business requirements into technical architectures and identify dependencies, tradeoffs, risks, and failure modes.
• Working fluency with modern AI application architecture, including model APIs, retrieval, agent and tool orchestration, evaluation, observability, data access, security, latency, and inference-cost management.
• Python and a modern backend stack, plus cloud platform expertise; Azure is preferred.
• B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Nice to have

• Experience designing shared platforms or infrastructure for multiple products, workflows, or engineering teams.
• Experience managing external engineering capacity, including vendors and contracted teams.
• Experience working with sensitive or proprietary data where third-party access is restricted.
• Patent, standards, or legal technology exposure.
• Formal training in data science, applied statistics, or a related field.
