Bazel Build Engineer (AI)

Location: Santa Clara, CA; hybrid with 3 days per week onsite

Salary: $155K–$235K annually, plus equity and bonus opportunities

What you will do

• Complete the migration of a large codebase and test suite to Bazel, including tagging, sharding, and hardware-dependent test routing.
• Design, deploy, and operate production remote execution and remote caching infrastructure.
• Build hermetic toolchains and reproducible builds across developer machines, CI, and hardware-attached runners.
• Own the build graph, toolchains, caching strategy, and build conventions used across engineering teams.
• Establish build-time baselines and reduce incremental build times and CI critical paths.
• Improve CI/CD for agent-assisted development and share Bazel best practices across teams.

Requirements

• Deep ownership experience with Bazel, including custom rules, toolchains, and target graph design in large repositories.
• Experience migrating production codebases and test suites to Bazel.
• Hands-on experience deploying and operating remote caching or remote execution.
• Experience with hermetic, reproducible, and observable builds and custom toolchains.
• Strong knowledge of C++, Rust, Python, and container image builds.
• Ability to debug non-reproducible builds and cache misses to root cause and collaborate with engineering teams.

Nice to have

• Kubernetes-based executor pool experience.
• Embedded or firmware cross-compilation experience.
• Open-source contributions to the Bazel ecosystem.
