Power Plant Specialist

Location: Tufts University Central Energy Plant, Medford, Massachusetts, United States

Salary: $30.77–$44.47 per hour

What you will do

• Operate and maintain the central energy plant in compliance with facility policies, procedures, permits, and safety requirements.
• Drive safety improvements, report incidents, support investigations, and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain equipment, coordinate contractors, manage planned outages, and oversee maintenance records.
• Identify upgrades and cost-reduction opportunities that preserve safety, production, and reliability.
• Maintain operator qualification and training programs and review plant standard operating procedures.
• Order materials, schedule deliveries, approve invoices, review reports, and support budgeting and special projects.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
• At least five years of direct operation and maintenance experience in an industrial setting.
• Experience with power generation, boiler operation, district steam heating, and chilled water systems.
• Working knowledge of reading and interpreting system drawings and P&IDs.
• Valid United States driver’s license required.
• Organizational and leadership skills.

Nice to have

• Technical training through military service, trade school, industrial experience, or a technical training school.
• Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or a technical discipline.
• Military or merchant marine experience.
• Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, or Maximo CMMS.
