Control Room Operator (Waste-to-Energy)

Location: Niagara Falls, New York, USA; onsite facility operations

Salary: $33.22–$44.18 per hour

What you will do

• Monitor and control steam generation, condensate, feedwater, turbine/generator, circulating water, fuel, ash handling, electrical, fire protection, and air pollution control systems.
• Track meters, gauges, alarms, annunciators, and computerized control system displays, adjusting operating parameters to maintain safe and efficient performance.
• Respond to equipment malfunctions, abnormal operating conditions, alarms, and emergencies in accordance with established procedures.
• Execute plant startup, shutdown, testing, inspections, equipment surveillance, and operational checks.
• Maintain operating logs, records, calculations, and documentation while reviewing trends for potential failures and performance improvements.
• Communicate with Shift Supervisors, Maintenance, Environmental, Engineering, and site personnel, and provide guidance to other Operations employees.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least three years of experience operating high-pressure boilers and electric generating equipment, or equivalent technical training and operating experience.
• Strong understanding of power plant operations, equipment, and operating principles.
• Ability to interpret blueprints, P&IDs, electrical schematics, equipment specifications, and technical manuals.
• Mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting, analytical decision-making, communication, and leadership skills.
• Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, and extended hours during outages or maintenance events.
