Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer (AI)

Location: Europe, fully remote, with CET ±3 hours working overlap; candidates must be based in Europe.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications using Ruby on Rails.
• Review product requirements and translate specifications into technical solutions with Product Managers.
• Prepare technical integration plans, development breakdowns, and effort estimates.
• Implement new features, improve existing platform functionality, and contribute to product roadmap discussions.
• Write clean, maintainable, well-tested production code; participate in pull requests, peer reviews, and testing.
• Troubleshoot application issues and improve reliability, performance, scalability, and user experience while collaborating with distributed engineering, infrastructure, and product teams.

Requirements

• 5+ years of commercial experience as a Backend or Full-Stack Software Engineer.
• Strong, recent hands-on Ruby on Rails experience in production.
• Ability to independently design and implement complex backend features.
• Experience with applications serving thousands or more monthly active users and understanding of reliable, scalable systems.
• Experience in technology scale-ups, startups, or similarly agile environments, with comfort working through changing priorities and tight deadlines.
• Ability to take features from requirements through development, testing, and production.
• Excellent spoken and written English and comfort working with international remote teams.
• Based in Europe and able to work with CET ±3 hours overlap.
• Full comfort working on AI companionship products involving uncensored and NSFW content.
