Senior Backend Engineer (Ruby)

Location: Kaunas or Vilnius, Lithuania; hybrid work with 2 recommended office days per week.

Gross monthly salary: €5,250–€7,100.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs for mid-mile transport and warehouse operations.
• Own technical initiatives from problem framing and system design through delivery, monitoring, iteration, and incident follow-up.
• Evolve a large Ruby on Rails modular monolith toward clearer module boundaries and well-defined APIs.
• Make architecture and technology trade-off decisions balancing scalability, reliability, maintainability, and technical debt.
• Collaborate with Product, Operations, Decision Science, and engineering teams through discovery, RFCs, and technical discussions.
• Share knowledge through code reviews, mentoring, onboarding, documentation, and technical leadership.

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience, including ownership from design through production.
• Solid Ruby experience or the ability and motivation to learn the backend stack quickly.
• Good understanding of API design, database-backed systems, observability, and production service operations.
• Experience working independently on complex problems and balancing delivery speed, reliability, and maintainability.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills across engineering, product, operations, and non-technical stakeholders.
• Excellent written and spoken English; ability to work from Lithuania in a hybrid setup.

Nice to have

• Experience with logistics, warehouse management, fulfillment, or operational workflows.
• Experience integrating software with physical devices.
• Experience modularizing a large monolith.
