Principal Backend Engineer (Generative AI)

Location: Palo Alto, United States; hybrid, with on-site work required in the Palo Alto office 3 days per week

Salary: $230,000–$280,000 per year, plus equity and benefits

hirify.global is building a generative AI healthcare SaaS platform with guardrails for AI governance, healthcare-specific agent creation, and real-time algorithm monitoring.

What you will do

• Own the architecture and long-term technical vision for scalable core platform services in regulated healthcare environments.
• Lead complex, cross-team initiatives from concept through production and document high-stakes technical trade-offs.
• Write and review critical code while setting standards for quality, maintainability, security, and performance.
• Drive infrastructure automation, observability, monitoring, alerting, reliability targets, and incident response practices.
• Partner with product, security, compliance, and customer-facing teams to translate requirements into platform capabilities.
• Mentor Senior and Staff engineers, lead architecture reviews, and resolve complex production issues through root cause analysis and systemic fixes.

Requirements

• Production experience designing, shipping, and operating generative AI applications or platforms at scale.
• Deep expertise in Python, working proficiency in TypeScript or Java, and hands-on experience with Go or Rust.
• Strong experience with distributed systems, microservices, secure RESTful APIs, cloud platforms, and Terraform.
• Experience with DevOps, CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, monitoring, and observability in production.
• Demonstrated technical leadership across teams, including architecture influence, mentoring, and clear communication with engineers, executives, and customers.
• Able to work on-site in the Palo Alto office 3 days per week.

Nice to have

• Significant GCP experience and familiarity with AWS and Azure.
• Experience with AI/ML platforms, LLM serving, evaluation, and monitoring.
• Experience with HIPAA, SOC 2, or similar regulated environments.
• Familiarity with React, Angular, or Vue.js.
• Healthcare industry experience or experience as an early engineering team member at a high-growth company.
