What you will do

• Translate robot manipulation and data-collection goals into mechanical requirements, interface definitions, and validation plans.
• Design complex CAD parts and assemblies, including actuated mechanisms, end effectors, mounts, enclosures, and fixtures.
• Select actuators, materials, bearings, fasteners, and manufacturing processes based on load, stiffness, tolerance, wear, and packaging requirements.
• Build and test prototypes, analyze failures, and iterate designs using measurements and experiments.
• Coordinate mechanical integration with sensors, wiring, electronics, and control software.
• Deliver drawings, bills of materials, assembly instructions, acceptance tests, and reliability improvements for repeatable fabrication and maintenance.

Requirements

• Independent ownership of complex mechanical designs through fabrication, integrated testing, and sustained use.
• Strong 3D CAD, engineering drawings, tolerance analysis, and practical GD&T experience.
• Sound mechanics knowledge, including the ability to justify design decisions with calculations, analysis, and experiments.
• Hands-on prototyping and assembly skills, with practical knowledge of machining and manufacturing processes.
• Ability to explain failed designs, isolate causes using evidence, and implement corrective iterations.
• Ability to coordinate across disciplines, communicate risks early, and create documentation others can build from.

Nice to have

• Experience with robot end effectors, precision or compliant mechanisms, or other actuated hardware.
• Experience taking prototypes into repeatable production and using field feedback to improve reliability.
• Background in mechatronics, sensor integration, FEA, basic controls, or programming.
