Senior Data Platform Engineer (AI)

Location: Boston, MA; San Francisco, California, United States; Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Offices are available in Boston, Vancouver, BC, and Vancouver, WA; select positions may be fully remote.

Salary: $125,000–$205,000 USD for candidates in the US; $110,000–$160,000 CAD for candidates in Canada.

What you will do

• Design, own, and evolve scalable data platform infrastructure across ingestion, orchestration, storage, transformation, and consumption.
• Build reliable batch and real-time pipelines, dbt transformation layers, and orchestration capabilities using GCP-native tools and custom systems.
• Develop backend APIs, services, integrations, infrastructure-as-code, and CI/CD automation for secure and cost-aware data movement between GCP and AWS.
• Build observability, data quality checks, access controls, governance, metadata, lineage, and freshness capabilities.
• Make company data accessible for analytics, machine learning, LLMs, and AI agents while designing for new AI use cases.
• Mentor engineers, establish reusable tooling and standards, and make architectural decisions across the platform.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience in data engineering, backend engineering, or platform engineering, with ownership of production data systems at scale.
• Strong backend programming skills in Python or a similar language, solid SQL, and experience with dbt or a comparable transformation framework.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, ideally GCP and BigQuery, and the ability to work across multiple clouds.
• Experience with infrastructure as code, CI/CD, workflow orchestration, batch and streaming architectures.
• Working knowledge of security, access control, data governance, and the ability to explain architectural tradeoffs to technical and non-technical partners.

Nice to have

• Kubernetes experience and experience migrating or redesigning orchestration systems.
• Experience with managed ingestion tools such as Fivetran.
• Experience building internal platforms or tooling adopted by other engineers.
• Experience with AI data foundations, including vector stores, feature pipelines, or governed LLM access.
