TL;DR
Director, Electrical Engineering (AI Infrastructure): Defining electrical architectures, standards, and engineering governance for high-density AI data centers across North America with an accent on medium- and low-voltage distribution, power availability, safety, and scalable deployment. Focus on leading technical due diligence, negotiating colocation electrical requirements, supporting site acquisition, and building a high-performing engineering team.

Location: AMER / North America; remote-first workplace supporting Nscale's U.S. data center portfolio.

Salary: $170,000–$260,000 USD base salary, plus potential bonus, equity, and/or commission.

Company

Nscale is a vertically integrated AI cloud company operating energy infrastructure, data centers, GPU superclusters, orchestration, and AI services across Europe and the United States.

What you will do

  • Own the electrical basis of design, standards, and reference architectures for high-density AI data center builds and expansions.
  • Lead concept, schematic, and detailed design reviews, equipment strategy, procurement support, submittals, RFIs, field changes, and construction issue resolution.
  • Review short-circuit and arc-flash studies, protective-device coordination, equipment ratings, labeling, safety, reliability, maintainability, and energy-efficiency requirements.
  • Lead consultants and build an engineering team through hiring, mentoring, performance management, and career development.
  • Perform electrical due diligence for colocation, greenfield, and brownfield opportunities, including utility feeds, redundancy, capacity, substations, power density, and upgrade pathways.
  • Define and negotiate electrical lease exhibits and technical schedules covering capacity, operating limits, maintenance, service levels, change control, metering, and monitoring.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • 5+ years of electrical engineering experience in mission-critical facilities, including significant data center design experience.
  • 3+ years of engineering leadership experience managing people, large multi-site programs, or both.
  • Strong knowledge of medium- and low-voltage distribution, switchgear and protection, UPS systems, generators, ATS/STS strategy, grounding and bonding, and commissioning.
  • Experience working with U.S. engineering firms, authorities having jurisdiction, and state and local code variations.
  • Strong judgment, decision-making, risk-based leadership, and the ability to challenge delivery teams while maintaining effective partnerships.

Nice to have

  • Experience with high-density AI or HPC deployments, liquid-cooled racks, and next-generation GPU power requirements.
  • Owner-side experience at a hyperscaler, neocloud, or data center developer.
  • Experience with utility interconnection, on-site substations, behind-the-meter power, or colocation and wholesale data center lease negotiations.
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.

Culture & Benefits

  • Remote-first and flexible workplace with autonomy over the working day.
  • Collaborative, supportive, and innovation-focused environment centered on ownership, accountability, openness, and transparency.
  • Competitive package with base salary and equity, with reviews every 12 months.
  • Dynamic progression plan and opportunities to lead, challenge established approaches, and own impact.
  • Potential medical, dental, and vision benefits, flexible paid time off, parental leave, retirement plan participation, and bonus or commission programs.
