Firmware Manager (Robotics) (C++/FreeRTOS): Leading development of low-level embedded firmware for humanoid robots, including sensor networks, controls, and power management, with an accent on robust architecture and production-ready hardware-software integration. Location: Hybrid position based out of the Fremont, California office; regular travel to Salem, Oregon is expected, averaging approximately 15% with extended stays during critical project phases. All roles are U.S.-based, and applicants must have current authorization to work in the United States.

Base salary: $198,000–$257,000 USD annually.

What you will do

  • Build and lead a team of senior embedded software engineers.
  • Plan firmware architecture and contribute to modern C++ firmware for robot sensor networks, controls, and power management.
  • Collaborate with hardware, software, controls, testing, and other cross-functional teams to deliver robust, production-ready robot systems.
  • Mentor engineers, establish technical rigor and ownership, manage performance cycles, and create development plans.
  • Review code, manage sprint planning, plan releases, and prioritize engineering workloads.
  • Document interfaces and support integration between hardware and higher-level robot control algorithms.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in robotics, autonomous vehicles, aerospace, industrial automation, or similarly complex software and systems environments.
  • 2+ years of experience leading and managing engineering teams.
  • Experience writing modern C++ and using FreeRTOS or a similar real-time operating system.
  • Knowledge of performant and maintainable software development, unit testing with tools such as GTest, coverage analysis, Git, Jira, feature branching, and continuous integration and deployment.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States is required.
