Principal Scientist, Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS Proteomics)

Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts; 100% onsite. Only U.S. persons are eligible because the role may involve access to export-controlled information.

Salary: $142,500–$256,500 per year, with potential annual discretionary bonus, other incentive compensation, or equity award.

What you will do

• Design and execute LC-MS proteomics studies from protein extraction and digestion through peptide separation, data acquisition, and analysis.
• Apply proteomics to complex biological questions and generate insights for preclinical research programs.
• Build scalable analytical capabilities with strong data quality, reproducibility, system performance, and experimental controls.
• Manage and develop a small scientific team, including prioritization, resource allocation, feedback, and mentoring.
• Serve as a mass spectrometry subject matter expert and communicate scientific strategies, results, and recommendations.
• Evaluate emerging mass spectrometry, automation, computational, AI/ML, and instrumentation technologies.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, immunology, or a related discipline.
• At least 5 years of post-Ph.D. mass spectrometry experience, preferably in an industry setting.
• Deep hands-on expertise in biological-sample LC-MS analysis, including sample preparation, instrument operation, method development, and data analysis.
• Expertise in discovery and quantitative bottom-up proteomics, including DDA, DIA, and targeted PRM acquisition.
• Experience troubleshooting sample preparation, chromatography, instrumentation, acquisition, and data-analysis challenges.
• Experience leading direct reports and using mass spectrometry bioinformatics tools such as FragPipe, Spectronaut, or Skyline.

Nice to have

• Experience with intact protein analysis, PTM characterization, alternative fragmentation, or immunopeptidomics.
• Familiarity with Bruker and Thermo Fisher Scientific platforms.
• Experience using R, Python, automation, computational methods, or AI/ML for analytical workflows.
• Experience introducing new mass spectrometry capabilities or workflows into a research environment.
