Proteomics Summer Intern 2027

Location: San Diego, California, United States of America. Onsite, full-time internship with 40 hours per week during Summer 2027. Candidates must be permanently authorized to work in the United States without current or future employment visa sponsorship.

Salary: $23.50–$52.50 per hour.

What you will do

• Develop, optimize, and evaluate proteomics sample preparation workflows for blood- and tissue-derived biological samples.
• Compare preparation approaches to improve analytical performance, reproducibility, throughput, scalability, and suitability for mass spectrometry.
• Adapt workflows for laboratory automation platforms, including the Agilent AssayMAP Bravo.
• Perform protein extraction, digestion, peptide cleanup, and related laboratory procedures.
• Design experiments with cross-functional scientists, analyze results, and troubleshoot technical challenges.
• Maintain experimental records and present project findings, workflows, and recommendations in a final presentation or poster.

Requirements

• Must be available for the Summer 2027 internship period, expected from May–August or mid-June–mid-September 2027.
• Currently pursuing a Master's or PhD in Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Proteomics, or a related scientific field and enrolled at an accredited university throughout the internship.
• Must have completed at least one year of graduate study by Summer 2027.
• Hands-on laboratory experience with biological samples, accurate pipetting, buffer preparation, centrifugation, and sample handling.
• Ability to plan and execute experiments, maintain organized records, communicate clearly, collaborate, and work safely in a laboratory environment.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0 and permanent US work authorization without current or future sponsorship requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience with proteomics or mass spectrometry sample preparation, especially low-input, blood-derived, or cell-based samples.
• Familiarity with in-solution digestion, S-Trap, SP3, or peptide cleanup workflows.
• Experience with liquid-handling automation or the Agilent AssayMAP Bravo platform.
• Exposure to LC-MS/MS, Bruker timsTOF systems, Spectronaut, R, Python, or other scientific data-analysis tools.
• Experience handling blood, PBMCs, or samples from humans and preclinical species.
