EHS Specialist (Environmental Health and Safety)

Location: Onsite in Ames, Iowa, United States; the role requires travel 1–2 times per year.

Salary: $65,000–$85,000 USD per year, plus eligibility for bonus pay.

What you will do

• Serve as the primary EHS point of contact for the Ames facility and partner with site leadership to strengthen the safety culture.
• Maintain compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, IDNR, permitting, reporting, and ISO certification requirements.
• Conduct job safety analyses, investigate workplace incidents, implement corrective actions, and support workers’ compensation processes.
• Develop and improve EHS policies, procedures, training programs, and emergency response protocols.
• Coordinate safety committees, emergency response teams, audits, and ISO certifications while maintaining records, reporting systems, and performance metrics.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Sustainability, or a related technical field, with 3+ years of EHS experience in manufacturing or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with regulatory compliance, permitting, OSHA and EPA programs, reporting, and recordkeeping.
• Training in RCRA Hazardous Waste Management or equivalent experience.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and comfort using digital tools and EHS management systems.
• Ability to work onsite in Ames, Iowa, United States.

Nice to have

• Professional EHS certifications such as ASP, GSP, CSP, or CIH.
• Experience with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
• Experience with Cority or similar EHS management software.
