TL;DR

Senior Software Engineer (Embedded): Responsible for assisting with architecture, high-level design choices, development, execution, and implementation of the flight software that commands and monitors the spacecraft with an accent on improving and delivering reliable software through requirements generation, continuous integration, automated testing, and code reviews. Focus on developing software in C++ to interface with the Flight computer and interface with the custom hardware on the vehicle.

Location: San Francisco, United States; U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, or refugee/asylee status required

Base salary: $200,000–$280,000 USD per year

What you will do

Develop flight software for satellite flight computers.
Develop firmware for satellite control boards and interface software for custom spacecraft hardware.
Improve software reliability through requirements generation, continuous integration, automated testing, and code reviews.
Collaborate with avionics, Ground Control, and Telemetry teams to integrate software with spacecraft hardware.
Deliver complex projects through incremental development and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

5–8+ years of experience developing product software in modern C++ or C.
Experience with software development methodologies, design patterns, and communication protocols including TCP/IP, I2C, and SPI.
Experience building high-availability or high-reliability systems.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Passion for space technology.
U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, or refugee/asylee status required for compliance with U.S. Government space technology export regulations.

Nice to have

Experience with embedded Linux, POSIX, VxWorks, FreeRTOS, or QNX.
Experience with Python and production software development.
Experience with safety-critical development, board bring-up, hardware-software integration, and debugging.
