TL;DR
Embedded Software Engineer, Motor Control & Real-Time Systems (Motor Control/Real-Time Embedded Systems): Developing deterministic control software, motor-drive firmware, device drivers, and fieldbus systems for test stands and production equipment with an accent on safety-critical real-time control, power electronics, and high-rate signal acquisition. Focus on implementing closed-loop motor control, building SIL/HIL validation infrastructure, and ensuring fault-tolerant behavior across distributed hardware systems.

Location: Los Angeles, CA, United States

Base salary: $150,000–$260,000 annually

Company

hirify.global develops and operates uranium enrichment services in the United States to support affordable nuclear energy and critical industries.

What you will do

  • Architect and develop deterministic, safety-critical control software on real-time Linux and embedded microcontroller/DSP platforms.
  • Implement motor-control firmware, including field-oriented and sensorless control, PWM generation, synchronized ADC sampling, and closed-loop current and torque control.
  • Define real-time architecture, driver standards, hardware interfaces, and fieldbus systems for R&D, test, manufacturing, and plant operations.
  • Develop drivers and data-acquisition interfaces for scientific instrumentation, sensors, and high-speed communication buses.
  • Build automated build, test, SIL, and HIL validation infrastructure for motor-control and real-time systems.
  • Perform safety analysis, integrated system testing, commissioning, and production deployment of embedded software.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related STEM field.
  • 5+ years of experience developing embedded, real-time, or low-level systems software.
  • Production-level experience with C, C++, or Rust.
  • Hands-on experience with motor-control firmware, including field-oriented control, sensorless control, PWM, and closed-loop current control.
  • Strong understanding of control fundamentals, deterministic timing, interrupt latency, concurrency, and device-driver development.
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends when necessary.

Nice to have

  • Experience with power electronics, inverters, gate drivers, and current-sensing hardware.
  • Experience with TI C2000, STM32, or similar motor-control MCUs/DSPs.
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink, Python, advanced estimation, Kalman filtering, and fault detection.
  • Experience with EtherCAT, CANopen, EtherNet/IP, Modbus, real-time Linux, RTOS, driver development, or kernel development.
  • Background in safety-critical, high-reliability, or regulated industrial environments.

Culture & Benefits

  • Fast-paced, high-impact, Skunkworks-style engineering projects.
  • Mission-driven environment focused on affordable nuclear energy.
  • Culture of urgency, accountability, and transparency.
  • Full-time hires may be eligible for stock options.
  • Medical, vision, dental, and 401(k) benefits are available.
