Aerospace Engineer, Ground Systems

Location: Los Angeles Air Force Base, California; in-person/hybrid, no remote work. U.S. citizenship required. Occasional travel of approximately 10% may be required.

Salary: $110,000+ annually, depending on experience, certifications, and qualifications.

What you will do

• Provide senior-level systems engineering and technical advisory support across the full acquisition lifecycle for Space Systems Command capabilities.
• Support requirements development, validation, verification, traceability, configuration control, technical baselines, and systems integration.
• Develop architectures using Model-Based Systems Engineering, Digital Engineering, and mission-thread analysis across space, ground, launch, communications, and mission-support segments.
• Evaluate interfaces, system performance, risks, dependencies, readiness, contractor engineering products, and verification documentation.
• Support launch integration, early-orbit operations, on-orbit checkout, operational readiness, transition to sustainment, and mission-area analysis.
• Prepare technical assessments, executive briefings, acquisition documentation, risk mitigation plans, and decision materials while coordinating with government, industry, and operational stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• At least 7 years of relevant aerospace, space systems, defense acquisition, or systems engineering experience.
• Experience supporting Department of Defense or Space Force acquisition programs and working with space systems, missile warning, missile tracking, missile defense, satellite systems, ground systems, or mission operations.
• Experience with requirements management, technical baseline management, systems integration, verification and validation, and risk management.
• Knowledge of the DoD acquisition lifecycle, applicable policies, processes, and standards, with strong technical writing, briefing, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
• Active Top Secret clearance and U.S. citizenship are required.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in a relevant engineering or technical field.
• Experience with Space Systems Command, Missile Warning, OPIR, SBIRS, FORGE, launch integration, on-orbit operations, ground segment integration, sensor fusion, or TCPED processes.
• Familiarity with AFI 63-101/20-101, AFI 63-1201, DoDI 5000.02, MIL-STD-882E, NIST SP 800-160, and applicable space safety and acquisition guidance.
• Experience with MBSE, Digital Engineering, Agile development, DevSecOps, or model-based mission assurance.
• Active TS/SCI clearance.
