Software Engineer L6 (AI)

Location: Manchester, UK; hybrid with up to 4 days working from home per week. Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the UK.

Salary: £75,000–£90,000 per year, dependent on experience.

What you will do

• Set technical direction across a significant product area and guide system design, build, and retirement decisions.
• Identify and solve complex, undefined problems across teams, including scaling bottlenecks, operational toil, security exposure, and reliability risks.
• Lead product-area technical decisions, architecture reviews, platform changes, framework upgrades, and estate-level cost work.
• Drive the agents, shared plugins, and AI infrastructure used in CI and code review, including governance, safety standards, and build-versus-buy decisions.
• Partner with product leadership to connect technical trade-offs with commercial outcomes.
• Mentor engineers and improve engineering standards, tooling, and delivery across teams.

Requirements

• Deep commercial experience with PHP and Laravel or a similar MVC framework.
• Architecture and design leadership across multiple teams or systems.
• Experience with Vue 3, React, Angular, or a similar modern JavaScript framework.
• Strong production experience with AWS and the ability to shape cost, reliability, and security at estate level.
• AI-native working practices and experience building AI tooling, agents, or infrastructure with appropriate guardrails.
• Strong product thinking, communication, influence, ambiguity management, and mentoring skills.
