Software Engineer II (Backend)

What you will do

• Design and build reliable backend services and APIs that power product workflows.
• Work with data models, SQL, event-driven flows, integrations, and product-facing features.
• Break down scoped business and customer problems into technical plans and collaborate with senior engineers on ambiguous work.
• Contribute to production health through monitoring, alerting, logging, debugging, observability, and runbooks.
• Improve quality through automated tests, code reviews, simpler designs, and data-informed decisions.
• Partner with product, design, infrastructure, support, and engineering teams while participating in incident response.

Requirements

• 3+ years of backend-focused software engineering experience.
• Strong backend skills in Java, Scala, Kotlin, Go, or a similar language.
• Strong SQL and data modeling fundamentals.
• Experience building APIs, services, and integrations, with developing knowledge of distributed systems, event-driven flows, caching, retries, and rate limits.
• Ability to work across system layers, including UI or frontend work when needed, while keeping backend as the primary focus.
• Ability to write automated tests, review code, use production telemetry, communicate trade-offs, and respond calmly to incidents.

Nice to have

• React, TypeScript, or similar frontend experience.
• Merchant- or customer-facing product experience.
• Experience with OAuth, account linking, external APIs, Redis, caching, queues at scale, analytics, or event data products.
