Senior Java Backend Developer (Payments)

Location: Remote within Poland; Warsaw, Poland

What you will do

• Deliver new features and services for the Risk Technology Services platform in a cross-functional team.
• Own service architecture, APIs, cross-service contracts, data models, and database schema evolution.
• Build RESTful APIs and asynchronous, event-driven integrations using resilient messaging patterns.
• Contribute to CI/CD, containerization, cloud infrastructure, observability, and production incident resolution.
• Lead code reviews, establish engineering and security standards, and mentor junior and mid-level developers.

Requirements

• 4+ years of professional Java development with modern Java, object-oriented programming, Spring Boot, and Spring Security/OAuth2.
• Experience with SQL and relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL, including schema design, query optimization, and Flyway or Liquibase migrations.
• Experience designing REST APIs and distributed, asynchronous integrations with idempotency, retries, ordering, dead-letter handling, and eventual consistency.
• Practical knowledge of Docker, CI/CD, automated unit and integration testing, Git, software architecture, secure coding, resilience, and observability.
• Experience with AWS or equivalent GCP/Azure services, cloud infrastructure, and infrastructure as code.
• Strong written and spoken English is required, along with the ability to lead in an Agile environment and mentor developers.

Nice to have

• Terraform or CloudFormation ownership, cloud cost and scaling awareness, and distributed tracing at scale.
• Spring Data JDBC, OpenAPI, Spring REST Docs, or a relevant cloud certification.
• Experience introducing standards and tooling improvements across distributed international teams.
