What you will do

• Translate power system requirements into site controller and inverter controller specifications with product and controls design teams.
• Design and validate plant controller functions for battery energy storage systems, including voltage regulation, frequency regulation, droop control, and active/reactive power control.
• Develop and validate PSCAD and PSSE models against field data and controller-hardware-in-the-loop behavior.
• Set up and execute CHIL testing with RTDS, OPAL-RT, or Typhoon HIL for grid disturbance and fault scenarios.
• Develop Python, C, or C++ automation tools for interconnection studies, controls integration, and testing workflows.
• Ensure control algorithms meet utility, ISO, ERCOT, and IEEE requirements, including IEEE 2800 compliance.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in power system studies, dynamic modeling, inverter-based resources, or grid integration of energy storage and renewable energy systems.
• MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering specializing in power systems and control systems; PhD preferred.
• Strong knowledge of classical and modern control theory, including PID tuning, state-space modeling, small-signal stability, and frequency-domain analysis.
• Expert proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink and experience developing user-defined inverter or plant controller models in PSCAD and/or PSSE.
• Experience with grid-forming and grid-following controls, PLL design, virtual inertia, droop-based power control, and system-level stability.
• Experience with real-time simulation and CHIL environments is strongly preferred; transmission-level studies and utility or ISO experience are advantageous.
