Core Network Technician IV (Telecommunications)

Location: Fairbanks, Alaska, United States; the role includes remote diagnostics, on-site support, dispatch to urban and rural locations, travel to different sites, and assignment across Alaska or the Northeast United States as business needs require.

What you will do

• Operate, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot core network elements and associated infrastructure to maximize availability and reliability.
• Diagnose and repair network equipment, replace electronic components, and resolve service-impacting incidents within established SLAs.
• Coordinate installations, testing, commissioning, upgrades, and troubleshooting across multiple vendor platforms.
• Execute software, firmware, hardware, and transmission facility changes in accordance with change management procedures.
• Provide technical guidance, training, outage updates, incident documentation, and escalation support to technicians, engineers, vendors, and internal teams.
• Maintain system documentation, daily site logs, repair-parts inventories, vendor support tickets, and Network Change Service Requests.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in a telecommunications central office or related environment.
• Advanced knowledge of telecommunications transport technologies, including T-Carrier, SONET, DWDM, CWDM, and PON.
• Strong knowledge of IP, subnetting, routing principles, IP address design, fiber-optic safety, and telecommunications DC power systems.
• Experience using OTDRs, Ethernet analyzers, and other advanced diagnostic and testing equipment.
• Valid driver's license, proof of insurance, satisfactory driving record, and ability to pass required background, security, drug, and fitness checks.

Nice to have

• Associate degree in electronics or a related field, telecommunications trade school, or equivalent training.
• Telecommunications industry or job-specific certifications.
• Experience with Ciena and Nokia equipment.
