Mechanisms Engineer (Nuclear)

Salary: $133.5K–$184.8K per year, plus equity

hirify.global is a startup developing mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors, including the 1-megawatt Kaleidos reactor for hospitals, data centers, remote sites, and military bases.

What you will do

• Own the design and development of critical mechanisms such as control blade actuators and air jacket valves.
• Conduct trade studies, select materials, and develop designs that meet program requirements.
• Perform thermomechanical, static strength, durability, fatigue, and kinematic analyses using hand calculations and finite element tools.
• Develop manufacturing and assembly instructions, test plans, and subassembly schedules.
• Manage bills of materials, supplier development, manufacturing, integration, and testing.
• Own subsystem FMEA risk analysis and communicate requirements and technical feedback across engineering disciplines.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• At least 3 years of experience designing mechanisms.
• At least 3 years of stress-analysis experience using hand calculations and finite element tools such as Abaqus, Ansys, or FEMAP.
• Experience with CAD-based multi-component assemblies, preferably NX or similar.
• Ability to work extended hours and weekends when necessary.
• Must work 100% onsite at the El Segundo headquarters.

Nice to have

• Experience designing manufactured, deployed, and iteratively improved hardware.
• Experience with pneumatic systems and electromechanical components such as motors and encoders.
• Experience working with interdisciplinary teams and applying GD&T.
• Ability to derive free-body diagrams for unfamiliar systems.
• Experience using text-based software development tools.
