Speaker Systems Engineer (Audio Hardware)

What you will do

• Own the speaker path of a consumer electronics product from transducer selection through enclosure design, factory testing, and production.
• Translate product requirements into speaker-system specifications covering bandwidth, output level, distortion, leakage, and power.
• Select, specify, and qualify miniature speakers and unconventional transducer technologies with suppliers.
• Design, simulate, prototype, and measure acoustic paths, including back volumes, ports, leaks, front acoustics, mesh, sealing, and open-ear leakage control.
• Define speaker limits and protection, partner with audio DSP and firmware teams, and reduce speaker-to-microphone coupling.
• Qualify systems for reliability, establish lab and factory measurement methods, and resolve acoustic yield and quality issues during production ramps.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Acoustics, Physics, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience integrating speakers into consumer electronics, including ownership of at least one shipped product.
• Strong knowledge of electroacoustics, lumped-parameter modeling, Thiele/Small parameters, enclosure and port design, and small-driver limits.
• Experience specifying and qualifying miniature speakers with transducer suppliers.
• Experience with audio test systems such as SoundCheck, Klippel, or Audio Precision, including distortion, maximum SPL, and rub-and-buzz measurements.
• Experience with acoustic simulation, speaker tuning, EQ, limiting, excursion protection, and thermal protection.

Nice to have

• Master’s or Ph.D. in EE, ME, Acoustics, or a related discipline.
• 8+ years of speaker or transducer development experience for consumer electronics.
• Experience with wearables, hearables, open-ear designs, or other near-ear products.
• Experience with transducer design, psychoacoustic evaluation, MATLAB or Python, and factory acoustic test development.
