Software Engineer, Numerical Computing (Python)

Location: Washington, D.C., United States; on-site 4 days per week. Periodic travel of up to 30% is required. U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance are required.

Salary: $150,000–$210,000 base salary per year, excluding bonuses, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain production-quality numerical software in Python with clear, composable, and maintainable interfaces.
• Integrate third-party software and hardware through APIs and maintain abstractions that isolate external integrations.
• Profile and accelerate signal-processing implementations using vectorization, array-programming frameworks, JIT compilation, GPU offload, or compiled-language bindings.
• Define numerical regression, reproducibility, tolerance, property-based, and reference-implementation testing practices, along with CI automation.
• Partner with signal-processing and RF engineers to turn algorithms from research papers, prototypes, and MATLAB into production software.
• Contribute to software architecture decisions for the sensing product line and components shared across the platform.

Requirements

• B.S. degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related field.
• 5+ years of professional software development experience and strong Python experience in production numerical codebases.
• Strong command of array-based numerical computing, including NumPy, SciPy, or equivalent, and an understanding of Python performance limitations.
• Experience accelerating numerical code with JAX, Numba, PyTorch, Triton, Halide, CUDA, pybind11, nanobind, Cython, or similar technologies.
• Experience working in large, multi-team codebases, with version control, code review, automated testing, and CI.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills. U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance are required.

Nice to have

• M.S. degree in a relevant technical field.
• Open-source contributions to numerical, scientific-computing, or signal-processing software.
• Experience with digital signal processing, software-defined radios, GNU Radio, real-time or streaming systems, or throughput-constrained data processing.
• Experience designing APIs or libraries for other engineering teams and familiarity with MATLAB, JIRA, and Confluence.
• Experience in DoD, military, or government environments and a current U.S. security clearance.
