CAD Designer (Opto-Mechanical)

Location: Lexington, Massachusetts, United States; must live within 100 miles of Lexington and work in the office at least 3–4 days per week. Remote work may be available depending on the project. Candidates who are not local to Massachusetts must relocate before starting.

What you will do

• Develop complex designs for imaging systems, thermal packaging solutions, novel materials, and innovative mechanisms.
• Design and model mechanical enclosures, optical assemblies, precision bearings, gearing, drive systems, and related subsystems.
• Support mounting, adjustment, actuation, alignment, measurement, fabrication, assembly, and environmental testing activities.
• Create, coordinate, and oversee sensor and system components across mechanical, optical, thermal, and electronic interfaces.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary subject matter experts on short-duration rapid-prototyping projects.
• Contribute to structural and thermal analysis, documentation, and system performance testing.

Requirements

• Must be a US citizen and able to obtain an active Secret Clearance.
• Must live within 100 miles of Lexington, Massachusetts, or relocate before starting; office attendance is required at least 3–4 days per week.
• Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of relevant experience; 8+ years is preferred, with 10+ years of mechanical design experience required in the detailed requirements.
• Experience with computer-aided design, mechanical CAD, device design, CAD/EDA/TCAD, CATIA, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and computer-aided manufacturing.
• Experience designing mechanisms, complex mechanical assemblies, opto-mechanical subsystems, and components.
• Knowledge of fabrication techniques, thermal and structural analysis, optical systems, and EO/IR systems.

Nice to have

• Opto-mechanical design experience.
• Experience with military standards and Mil-Spec components.
• Experience coordinating and executing system performance testing.
• Experience working with manned or unmanned vehicles, aircraft, ships, or spacecraft.
