Digital Controls Technical Specialist (HVAC/IoT)

Location: Montreal, Quebec, Canada; hybrid workplace presence with specific in-office days each month. The role is desk-based, with no fieldwork required, and includes after-hours coverage when required.

Annual base salary: CAD 66,300–94,850, plus potential incentive compensation.

What you will do

• Oversee architecture, configuration, integration, reliability, uptime, and performance for cloud BMS deployments.
• Lead remote troubleshooting, optimization, commissioning, maintenance, and updates for IoT devices, HVAC controls, lighting, and refrigeration systems.
• Design, develop, and test control programs and sequences for building automation systems.
• Monitor deployed models and customer systems in real time, serving as the escalation point for complex technical incidents.
• Collaborate with customers, sales, customer success, operations, development, data science, and algorithm teams.
• Improve documentation, QA/QC testing, release readiness, KCS practices, and troubleshooting workflows while mentoring controls specialists.

Requirements

• Diploma in mechanical, electrical, or building environments engineering technology, or equivalent trade or field experience.
• 3–5 years of experience with building automation and HVAC control systems, preferably in IoT.
• Strong experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud and hands-on experience with BMS software, programming, and hardware.
• Knowledge of HVAC, mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, building operations, commissioning, and control-panel wiring.
• Experience with BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, or DIIInet; Unix/Linux, scripting, networking, Python, MQTT, RESTful APIs, and NodeRED.
• French-English bilingualism is required; full professional English proficiency is required for collaboration with English-speaking clients and stakeholders.
