Specialist - Project Engineer (Defense Tech)

Location: Onsite in Waterdown, Ontario, Canada

Salary: CAD 95,000–120,000 per year

What you will do

• Provide project leadership and technical guidance for internally and externally funded product developments.
• Own a product family as the engineering point of contact for production and lead project scrums, material shortage reviews, and build meetings.
• Coordinate engineering changes, lead technical change assessments, and manage impacts on schedule, quality, and cost.
• Investigate product failures and deficiencies using root cause analysis, implement corrective actions, and track their effectiveness.
• Lead design stage-gate reviews, reliability metrics presentations, New Product Introduction activities, and cross-functional leadership meetings.
• Maintain project forecasts, risk registers, budgets, schedules, Earned Value Management reporting, and customer contract milestones.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with at least 4 years of relevant experience, or a graduate degree with at least 2 years of related experience.
• In lieu of a degree, at least 8 years of relevant experience may be accepted.
• Proficient knowledge of project engineering and practical project management.
• Experience with Microsoft Office, MS Project, Atlassian Jira, and Confluence.
• Knowledge of electro-mechanical, electrical, optical, and video systems, including mechanical design, circuit board assemblies, feedback control systems, and optical assemblies.
• Eligibility for registration with the Controlled Goods Program and ability to obtain and maintain a positive security assessment; some positions may require Canadian Reliability status or Level 2 Secret clearance.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of root cause analysis and reliability methods such as 5 Why, Cause Map, 8D, or FMEA.
• Knowledge of AS9100 quality standards.
• PMP certification or P.Eng. license.
• Experience with cameras, laser devices, motors, potentiometers, and encoders.
