Principal Avionics Hardware Development Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: On-site in El Segundo, California, United States. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States and qualify as a U.S. person under ITAR requirements.

Salary: $181,913–$262,763 per year, plus potential long-term incentives in stock options and/or long-term cash awards.

hirify.global develops commercial space infrastructure, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing payloads, reentry capsules, heat shields, and satellite buses, with vehicles and equipment built, integrated, and tested in-house.

What you will do

• Architect and design flight-critical avionics hardware for satellite buses, reentry vehicles, and customer payloads.
• Own PCB electronics development from schematic capture and layout through board bring-up, fabrication, assembly, validation, and manufacturing test.
• Translate mission and company objectives into subsystem requirements, designs, and development milestones.
• Lead product acceptance and qualification testing for thermal, vibration, shock, TVAC, and EMI environments.
• Collaborate with flight software, thermal, GNC, structures, mission operations, pharmaceutical, and integration teams on vehicle-level impacts and test plans.
• Analyze test failures, implement mitigation strategies for flight risks, and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 8+ years of direct electronics hardware design experience, including schematic capture, PCB layout, board bring-up, and environmental qualification.
• Experience contributing to complex electronics systems from design through launch.
• Knowledge of signal integrity, power and grounding layout, analog/digital filtering, mixed-signal circuits, load switches, and switch-mode DC:DC converters.
• Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, function generators, digital multimeters, and power supplies; programming experience in Python, MATLAB, or another scripting/data-analysis language.
• Experience implementing hardware layers for communication protocols including SPI, RS422, and 1000BASE-T. U.S. work authorization and U.S. person status are required for access to export-controlled technology.

Nice to have

• Advanced electronic circuit design and analysis skills.
• Knowledge of physics, mathematics, and chemistry fundamentals relevant to electronics in unique environments.
• Experience with aerospace sensors and actuators, including RTDs, pressure transducers, brushless motors, solenoid valves, thermocouples, stepper motors, and rotary or linear encoders.
