Technology Director — Global Health

Location: Remote within the United States, with occasional international travel. U.S. citizenship is required by the federal government contract.

Salary: $131,256–$223,134 annually for full-time employment.

What you will do

• Own delivery of an AI innovation portfolio covering automated data-to-report production, natural-language data access, multilingual questionnaire design, field data quality, and new measurement approaches.
• Lead stage-gate reviews, assess results, stop underperforming workstreams, and reallocate funding.
• Serve as a technical lead and architect, designing systems, writing architecture documents, and guiding prototypes through production.
• Set architecture, engineering, security, privacy, data governance, and responsible AI standards across the portfolio.
• Lead and mentor applied AI, software, ML, and platform engineers while coordinating with survey methodologists, statisticians, field teams, government partners, and funders.
• Share results through documentation, publications, conferences, client engagement, white papers, and proposals.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in IT, engineering, information systems, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
• At least 10 years of experience designing and delivering technology solutions, including multiple complex systems taken into production.
• At least 5 years of experience leading and mentoring software or data engineering teams.
• Production experience with AI/ML or LLM-powered systems, including measuring quality and explaining system limitations.
• Experience leading multi-workstream technology programs with budget and results accountability, plus strong knowledge of architecture, data pipelines, software development methods, and a major cloud platform.
• U.S. citizenship is required.

Nice to have

• Working proficiency in French or Portuguese.
• Experience with survey operations, global health, international development, national statistical offices, or ministries of health.
• Experience with offline, edge, or low-connectivity data collection and multi-country deployments involving data sovereignty.
• Experience with stage-gated R&D portfolios, quantitative AI acceptance thresholds, cybersecurity, IRB processes, and data governance.
• Advanced degree or publications and conference presentations in AI, survey methods, or global health.
