Global IT Software Engineer Senior Director & Tech Area Lead - Legal

Location: Boston or London. Regular work from a BCG office or in person with clients is generally expected, typically around 50% of working time.

Base salary in Boston: $195,000–$242,500 annually, plus a discretionary performance bonus of up to 45% and retirement contributions.

What you will do

• Define the technical vision, architecture, standards, and delivery approach for BCG’s legal technology ecosystem.
• Provide technical oversight across contract lifecycle management, conflicts clearance, matter management, legal knowledge management, eDiscovery, litigation support, insurance, and corporate elections.
• Direct the evaluation and application of agentic AI, generative AI, LLM orchestration, automation, and data capabilities.
• Set direction for platform and vendor selection, SDLC practices, observability, AI quality metrics, and long-term capability development.
• Lead and mentor technology chapters spanning software engineering, AI, SaaS engineering, quality assurance, data, and L2 operations.
• Align Legal, Technology, Data, Risk, Compliance, Security, enterprise architecture, vendors, and senior stakeholders around strategic outcomes.

Requirements

• 12+ years of senior technical leadership experience in a complex, matrixed organization.
• Demonstrated experience delivering legal, risk, KYC, or similar technology transformation programs at scale.
• Experience directing production agentic AI and LLM-based systems, including multi-agent orchestration, RAG architectures, model evaluation, ground-truth practices, and AI governance.
• Strong knowledge of contract lifecycle management, conflicts clearing, matter management, legal knowledge management, and emerging legal technology platforms.
• Experience delivering custom development programs using major cloud providers and serverless technologies.
• Familiarity with Scrum, agile delivery, iterative development, servant leadership, stakeholder alignment, and enterprise technology governance.

• Experience in professional services, consulting, regulated industries, or other complex enterprise environments.
• Background in legal technology, contract intelligence, LLM applications, or professional-services transformation.
