Technical Writer (Public Health - HIV/STD Preferred)

Location: Hybrid role based in Atlanta, Georgia, with teleworking most days and ad hoc visits to the CDC campus.

What you will do

• Write technical, scientific, and consumer-focused HIV content for web pages and other digital channels.
• Write and edit Dear Colleague Letters, standard operating procedures, technical documents, reports, and internal communications.
• Copy edit and content edit scientific and consumer-focused HIV products.
• Communicate with Division staff by email, phone, and in person to determine needs and develop effective materials.
• Manage writing and editing projects through concept development, research, production, and clearance reviews.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
• At least three years of technical writing and/or scientific writing experience.
• Experience developing web or intranet content, public-facing fact sheets, and technical training materials using federal Plain Language guidelines.
• Experience with scientific clearance processes and Section 508-compliant reports, dissemination products, and digital content.
• Excellent written English, strong grammar and editing skills, familiarity with academic style guides, and meticulous attention to detail.
• Must be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
• DHS/GSA Section 508 certification or equivalent accessibility training.
• Scientific or medical writing training, such as AMWA certification.
• Experience with HIV or public health subject matter.
• Written Spanish fluency.
