TL;DR
Technical Writer (Aerospace): Developing and editing regulatory documents, manuals, instructions, reports, and briefings for the Federal Aviation Administration with an accent on technical accuracy, clarity, document standardization, and plain-language communication. Focus on translating complex expert input into polished documentation, maintaining revision schedules, and supporting fact-checking, research, and project tracking.

Location: Washington, DC, United States

Salary: $110,000+ annually, depending on experience, certifications, and qualifications.

hirify.global provides professional services supporting the Federal Aviation Administration’s SETIS contract and Civilian Division.

What you will do

  • Review, edit, standardize, and revise regulatory documents, manuals, instructions, technical orders, reports, correspondence, and briefings.
  • Organize and format FAA-prepared content for clarity, flow, readability, and compliance with style guidelines and industry best practices.
  • Meet with subject matter experts, gather technical information, and produce original written drafts for review and finalization.
  • Write articles, columns, talking points, and other content based on research and information from multiple sources.
  • Maintain technical document listings, key data, and revision schedules while tracking and reporting project progress.
  • Support the FAA customer through meeting notes, research, analysis, fact-checking, information gathering, and graphic concept development.

Requirements

  • US citizenship is required, along with the ability to complete and pass a Public Trust Security Investigation and obtain a Tier 1 Background Investigation.
  • BA/BS degree and at least 2 years of relevant experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience using QuickSilver to process and prepare technical documentation.
  • At least 2 years of experience with Adobe Communique (CQ5).
  • Ability to write and edit in varied formats, styles, and voices; communicate complex technical information; and maintain grammatical accuracy.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, time-management, prioritization, and problem-solving skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice to have

  • Experience with federally mandated plain-language requirements.
  • Experience using InDesign.
