Principal Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Greater San Francisco area, US; in-office five days per week

Salary: $325,250–$375,000 per year, plus equity

What you will do

• Define the long-term technical vision and architecture for the Business Platform and align it with product and company strategy.
• Lead approaches to agentic identity, authorization, trust delegation, licensing, billing, subscriptions, and monetization.
• Guide multiple teams in building secure, scalable, reliable, and performant tier 0 systems.
• Set architectural and operational standards covering observability, scale, performance, security, and quality.
• Influence company strategy, organizational design, investment decisions, and multi-year engineering roadmaps.
• Represent Postman through standards work, publications, conference talks, and industry collaboration.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience.
• Deep expertise and recognized thought leadership in identity management, security, or a related field.
• Knowledge of standards including OAuth, OpenID Connect, SAML, SCIM, SSO, and FIDO.
• 15+ years of hands-on engineering experience and fluency in common programming languages such as C, C++, Java, Go, Python, JavaScript, or Node.js.
• Experience setting technical strategy for large-scale platforms and operating highly available, highly scalable tier 0 systems.
• Demonstrated company-level impact, strong analytical and communication skills, and experience influencing executives and board members.

• Experience with AI and agentic systems.
• Industry influence through standards bodies, open source, publications, or talks.
