Backend Software Engineer II (Data Platform)

Location: Remote within the United States; employees must reside in and be able to work from the U.S. International work is prohibited.

Salary: $120,000–$130,000 per year

What you will do

• Build backend services that ingest, validate, reconcile, and serve data from external partners.
• Develop systems for member identity, eligibility, billing, partner integrations, reporting, and analytics.
• Design APIs, asynchronous workflows, and data pipelines used across the platform.
• Build resilient mechanisms for handling incomplete, duplicated, delayed, and inconsistent data, including retries, replay, and recovery.
• Improve reliability, observability, testing, and performance in production systems.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Product, and Operations to define solutions for incomplete or complex requirements.

Requirements

• Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.; Vida does not sponsor work visas.
• Must reside in or be able to work from a state where Vida is registered.
• Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of professional backend software development experience.
• Strong programming fundamentals, primarily using Python, plus relational databases and SQL.
• Experience processing, transforming, or moving significant amounts of data, and understanding testing, debugging, APIs, and distributed-system failure modes.
• Experience deploying or operating software in a cloud environment, with clear written communication and sound technical judgment.

Nice to have

• Experience with data-intensive backend systems, ETL/ELT pipelines, or event-driven architectures.
• PostgreSQL, analytical warehouses, or data modeling experience.
• Infrastructure as code, containers, or workflow orchestration.
• Identity resolution, entity matching, eligibility, claims, healthcare data, or regulated production environments.
