Cryogenics & XHV System Integration Engineer (Quantum Computing)

What you will do

• Evaluate the extreme-high-vacuum and cryogenic compatibility of system components with physicists, mechanical engineers, and electronic engineers.
• Co-develop assembly plans covering integration sequences, validation tests, resource planning, and final integration testing.
• Own physical integration through precision mechanical assembly, component inspection, and validation testing.
• Lead advanced leak checking, multi-day bakeouts, cryogenic thermal cycling, and functional qualification procedures.
• Define and optimise cleanroom protocols and testing sequences for mechanical, thermal, and electrical characteristics.
• Document integration activities, coordinate communication across teams, and resolve assembly anomalies through root-cause analysis.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience designing and commissioning ultra- or extreme-high-vacuum systems.
• 3+ years of experience designing cryogenic systems or comparable apparatuses, such as cryostats or cryogenic measurement setups.
• Strong attention to detail, precise documentation, organisational skills, and effective team coordination.
• Fluent English communication required.
• Willingness and flexibility to travel abroad for short periods to support overseas teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with in-vacuum ion traps, neutral-atom systems, or similar technologies.
• Experience integrating mechanical, cryogenic, and electrical components.
• Experience in a cleanroom, laser laboratory, or quantum laboratory.
• German language knowledge above B1.
