Interim Associate or Senior Editor, Nature Biomedical Engineering

Location: Hybrid working model based in London, United Kingdom, or Pune, India

What you will do

• Select, reject, and assess manuscripts for publication within current editorial policy.
• Handle research submissions across bioengineering and biomedical engineering, especially biomedical imaging, image analysis, genome engineering, and gene therapy.
• Define topics for Perspective and Review Articles, assess proposals, handle resulting manuscripts, and improve them through effective editing.
• Build relationships with researchers and strengthen the reputation of Nature Biomedical Engineering within the scientific community.
• Collaborate with editors, editorial assistants, Author Services, marketing, advertising, and other departments.
• Contribute to publishing strategy, team training, and technological or operational developments where assigned.

Requirements

• PhD or equivalent in biomedical engineering or a related discipline.
• Fluency in English, written and spoken, is required.
• Ability to assess the novelty, context, and implications of research across different areas of biomedical engineering.
• Broad interest in scientific research and willingness to learn beyond the primary area of expertise.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, collaboration, and scientific evaluation skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced collaborative environment.

Nice to have

• Postdoctoral experience.
• Experience in biomedical imaging or genome editing.
• Broader knowledge of gene therapy.
• Significant editorial experience for consideration at Senior Editor level.
