Director, Payments & Financial Services (Fintech)

Location: Remote within Canada, with listed locations in Toronto, Halifax, Calgary, Vancouver, Ottawa, Kitchener, Waterloo, Hamilton, and Truro. Candidates must already be legally authorized to work in Canada; no work authorization, relocation assistance, or visa sponsorship is provided.

Salary: CA$153,000–CA$190,000 per year, plus potential incentive compensation, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Run the Payments business rhythm through weekly and monthly business reviews, P&L reviews, KPI reporting, and TPV and revenue forecasting.
• Lead high-value initiatives including surcharging, repricing, AutoPay, optimized payments, BNPL, and embedded partner launches.
• Own payment operations covering payouts, reconciliation, processor workflows, automation, 1099 operations, compliance reviews, and PayFac controls.
• Manage relationships with Stripe, processors, BNPL providers, card networks, vendors, advisors, and consultants.
• Set pricing and manage strategic customer decisions while balancing growth, margin, and sub-merchant risk.
• Partner across Product, Engineering, Marketing, Sales, Operations, Support, Risk, and Finance on execution, planning, compliance, and market strategy.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in payments, fintech, embedded finance, or SaaS financial services.
• Commercial ownership across revenue, margin, pricing, partner economics, or P&L delivery.
• Hands-on knowledge of processing, interchange, PayFac and sub-merchant models, BNPL, TPV, attach rates, pricing, and margin management.
• Experience leading cross-functional execution and managing external payment partners, processors, or card networks.
• Strong financial, analytical, executive communication, and influencing skills, including the ability to drive outcomes without direct authority.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field.

Nice to have

• MBA or equivalent experience.
• Experience with embedded finance, card issuing, treasury, or banking-as-a-service.
• Knowledge of fraud, chargebacks, merchant underwriting, 1099 operations, payouts, reconciliation, and processor workflow automation.
