Junior Automation Engineer (AI)

Location: San Francisco, California, United States

Base salary: $110,000–$150,000 per year, plus bonus and equity.

What you will do

• Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot integrations between Jira, GitHub, Ketryx, and related engineering tools.
• Automate compliance documentation, test reports, and traceability matrices for FDA and ISO 13485 audits.
• Write and maintain Python and shell scripts for internal developer tools, code quality, and reduced manual effort.
• Collaborate with Software Engineering, QA, DevOps, Product, and Regulatory teams to troubleshoot build failures and pipeline issues.
• Optimize local development environments and clarify expected software behaviors.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 1–3 years of experience, including strong internships or co-ops, in software development, automation, test engineering, or DevOps.
• Proficiency in Python or another programming language and at least one shell scripting language, such as Bash or PowerShell.
• Hands-on experience with Git/GitHub, Jira, and continuous integration and continuous deployment concepts.
• Strong analytical and debugging skills for pipeline failures, API integration issues, and build-time optimization.
• Meticulous documentation skills for technical and regulatory audiences.

Nice to have

• Experience with AI-assisted development tools or integrating LLM APIs into internal automation workflows.
• Familiarity with Software as a Medical Device, ALM/QMS tools, HIPAA, FDA, or ISO 13485 quality systems.
• Experience with RESTful APIs or webhooks for connecting third-party SaaS applications.
• Basic knowledge of AWS and Docker.
